Three ways YOU can help.
- Click here to send an email to rich donors of the museum to let them know you see the greenwashing and that you are not okay with it!
- Click here to switch over to renewable electricity in your home.
- If you’re a scientist and want to get involved to stop the climate crisis, click here. And yes, we’re global. If you are in New York and not a scientist, click here. Otherwise, google your local climate org to join the cause.
You can add facts to any museum that is ignoring the climate crisis! Here's how you can make removable, non-damaging Clingons at home.
- Do your research and design factual updates for the museum.
- Purchase static cling vinyl paper that is used to temporarily stick things to glass.
- Purchase regular printable sticker paper.
- Print the factual updates onto the regular sticker paper.
- Attach the sticker paper to the static cling vinyl paper.
- Add climate facts to any smooth surface.
The American Museum of Natural History has a greenwashing problem.
While scientists have been warning of the worsening climate crisis for decades, the museum has failed to update its exhibits to reflect this. Its limited climate exhibit, that boasts “big-picture” messages about climate change on the museum’s website, does not mention the burning of fossil fuels and corporations responsible.
It does, however, list its corporate partners as “a diverse group of the world’s leading corporations who are demonstrating their support for scientific research, education, and biodiversity and conservation through their participation in the Museum’s Corporate Membership program.” The list includes @citibank and @jpmorganchase, two banks that invest heavily in fossil fuels.
Since the museum willfully ignores the scientific evidence and continues to take money from banks that are driving the climate crisis, Scientist Rebellion decided to visit the museum this past week and spruce it up a little.
